Blame It On A "Twist Of Fate", If You Must. Joel P. Wood And His Son Melvin E. Wood Were Hauling Lumber Past The Site When Engine Trouble Forced Them To Stop. While Waiting For Help, Elder Wood Did Some Investigating And Noticed The Appearance Of Sand & Gravel. Joel Made The Test Holes And Staked His "Claim" Purchasing The 120 Acres In "1929"

Joel & His Son Melvin Decided To Start A Business Together On The Property And Named Their Company State Sand & Gravel.
In 1946 They Incorporated The Business. They Ran The Business Until Joel's Passing. Then Melvin And His Wife Thelma's ~Oxton~Wood Continued The Business Until "1978" Then Passing The Torch To Nephew Richard Oxton Sr. "Dick" & Wife Gari P. Oxton In "1978" Whom Together Continued They Run The Family Business Until Richard's Passing In "1993"

Gari Along With Her Sons & Daughters Held A Family Meeting To Decide Whether Or Not To Continue To Run The Company To Keep "Dick's Dream Alive The Decision Was An Unanimous "Yes."

State Sand & Gravel, Inc. Continues To Thrive today With Gari At The Helm With Her 2 Son's David & Richard Oxton, Jr., & 2 Daughter's Susan Oxton Wood & Debbie Oxton Riley.
